Low Strung Performing in Chicago
Low Strung, a cello rock ensemble from Yale University, is performing throughout the Chicago area from March 5 through March 11. The tour will culminate with a full-length concert at Nichols Hall in Evanston on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30pm. The group will also play at the Abbey Pub on Sunday, March 6 at 9pm, and at Morseland on Tuesday, March 8 at 10pm.
An ensemble of 11 classically trained cellists, the musicians of Low Strung break out of the classical cello repertoire and venture into the realm of classic rock and pop. The group plays sweeping, innovative arrangements of tunes by such artists as Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and the Beatles and the Stones, while still echoing Mozart or Beethoven. Using the versatility of the cello to extraordinary effect, this energized and charismatic group imitates and translates everything from drums and electric bass lines to lead vocals and guitar solos, bringing an exciting sound to rock ballads, heavy metal favorites, and pop tunes. Low Strung’s resonance and rhythm are unforgettable.
Low Strung released its first CD in May of 2007, which can be found on iTunes, CD Baby, and at concerts. During its Chicago tour, the group will be playing in local schools and offering master classes to young musicians in the area.
