Smashing Pumpkins Rocked the Riviera
Posted by: | Comments“Oh, Chicago, I’m coming home to you,” Billy Corgan sang Friday at the sold-out Riviera.
Not that he ever really left, but for Corgan and the latest incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins this was something of a homecoming, showcasing a new lineup and previewing a batch of fresh songs from a forthcoming album, “Oceania.” It also was an opportunity to re-energize a fan base that even Corgan acknowledged has been severely tested in recent years amid lineup machinations and indifferently received music.
The lean, shaven-headed singer is one of the most successful figures ever in Chicago music, an architect of ‘90s alternative rock, and also one of the most polarizing. So he was wise to let his songs do most of the talking. He pretty much stowed the on-stage editorializing and audience-baiting that marred his last major Chicago appearances in 2008 and got down to the business of playing more than two hours of music with guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino.
Corgan has discarded all his original bandmates, and has been vilified for it. His response has always been to recruit new musicians, write more songs and tour as much as possible to rebuild the franchise (for those keeping count, this lineup marks at least the fifth major incarnation of the band since the early ‘90s).
Warrent singer Jani Lane found dead at 47
Posted by: | CommentsJani Lane, who fronted the glossy rock band Warrant during the salad days of hair metal, was found dead in a motel room in Woodland Hills, Calif., Thursday evening of undetermined causes, police said. He was 47.
Lane was reportedly discovered at a Comfort Inn near Los Angeles. The death was first reported by TMZ. A message on his website reads, “Jani will be missed by all. Very unexpected and tragic news of his untimely death.”
Lane penned many of Warrant’s huge hits, including “Down Boys,” “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and the band’s biggest charter, the 1989 ballad “Heaven.” He also preened and grinned in the band’s video for the 1990 camp hit, “Cherry Pie.”
He left Warrant in 2004 and a year later a bloated Lane surfaced to clean up his act during the 2005 season of VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club.” A healthier Lane rejoined the group in 2008 only to leave it again months later over business matters.
Lane was married three times. He leaves behind four children

Aftermath
Posted by: | CommentsBorn and raised in the Chicago Suburbs, the musical powerhouse group called ‘Aftermath’ is all about good friends playing GREAT music. As a concept bred by Dru Ruger and Jesse Schramel- Aftermath was in a developmental stage making music for a rough year and a half before recruiting the talented and long time friend- Zack Mayfield on the bass guitar. Zack brings a hard hitting jazz and classical style tune to Dru’s tough, catchy and metal oriented guitar riffs and Jesse’s Grungy-blues vocal style. After a year of laying down music, Aftermath had searched for the final piece to the puzzle. Brian Dietrich was brought into Aftermath with his ‘Speed-metal’ and earth pounding knowledge on the drums. With an undying love for the hard-hitting and ear snagging music in the industry, Aftermath pushes to bring the top of the line space filling music that will, without a doubt, grow to unbelievable levels in the music world.
